Decomposition Books by Michael Roger

When the good people at Michael Roger contact me to design covers and patterns for their Decomposition Books and associated products, I jump at the chance! They are some of my absolute favourite people to work with. Their notebooks and bags are produced with eco-smart practices and take special care to be as sustainable as possible. Since this aligns with my personal values, I’m always excited to start a new project with them. The illustrations often follow whimsical or rhyming themes such as ‘Pear Bears’, ‘Octopie’ and ‘Manatea’ for a few examples. I always try to create something accessible, amusing and eye-catching, but also something that the buyer can have fun making their own. After all, who doesn’t enjoy personalizing a new notebook, that’s the best part of buying one!

In a match made in heaven, my ‘Manatea’ tote bag design was featured on the Netflix hit show ‘The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’! This felt like the perfect fashion complement to such a quirky character. This type of product placement can really take a brand to the next level. And from an artist’s point of view, it’s always fun to see your work in film and television!
