The Process of Getting Things Done

Black and white photo of Sam Posnick sketching process in notebook

I’m available to hire for illustration, graphic design and some animation services. I’ve tried to describe the basic process for each type of artistic request below, but please contact me if you have any questions.

Note: Generally, the process is very similar, no matter what we are working with but it may vary from project to project.

Illustration

What you get: Vector/digital artwork from concept to completion

  1. Call or email me to discuss your project. Or you can use my simple contact form. Try to give me a simple breakdown of what you’re looking for.
  2. Based on your description, I may ask further questions or be able to offer an estimate (this is project-specific, as it is not always possible to determine the length of time/effort it will take to complete an illustration). If an estimate is not provided, I will give you an hourly rate*.
  3. Once we agree on price and any other terms (licensing, ownership, etc), I begin researching and conceptualizing as needed.
  4. I send you a rough sketch of what I perceive to be what you are looking for.
  5. We make revisions/changes as needed.
  6. Work begins on the final product.
  7. I send you a draft of the final illustration. If approved, final touches are added. Minor changes/revisions can be performed if necessary.
  8. Final illustration completed, I send a low resolution jpg for approval.
  9. If the jpg is suitable, I send an invoice out (emailed as a pdf). Upon receipt of full payment, I send you the high-resolution final files- checked and ready for print in publications or prepared for video applications, if applicable.
